Hello World

Welcome to Retro Food For Modern Times.

I’m Taryn, a lover of all things vintage but particularly clothes, homewares and old cookbooks.  I live in Melbourne, which is a fabulous food city and love finding new places down our many tiny alleyways!

I love to read, to travel, good food, wine and fun times with friends.

The idea for Retro Food For Modern Times occurred when I purchased an old cookbook from a church jumble sale.  The book was kooky to say the least, some off the oddest recipes I’ve ever read, along with atrocious food styling.  And yet…interspersed in the general nuttiness, there were some real culinary gems.

I didn’t want to cook everything in these books because there are too many good recipes out there to spend time and money on the patently awful.  But nor did I want to disregard the gold.  And hence we have the beast that is Retro Food For Modern Times – I reserve the right to mock what needs to be mocked but I’ll also test my culinary skills, patience and sanity in cooking the good and the great!

This is meant to be lighthearted, I absolutely do not want to offend or hurt the feelings of anyone connected with any of the old books I look at and I hope this is taken in the spirit in which it is intended.

I also claim the right to talk about non-retro food items as and when my fancy takes me!

Please feel free to leave me comments and feedback.

Most importantly, enjoy!

Taryn
